Michigan State Football: News, notes from Aug. 8 practice

The 2022 season is right around the corner and Michigan State football is hard at work in preseason practice.

Michigan State football coaches and players took the field once again on Monday afternoon and took more steps in the right direction with the 2022 season just a few weeks away.

Although full pads practices haven’t occurred yet, there’s still plenty you can learn about a team from shoulder pads and shorts practices in the preseason.

The second week of practices kicked off on Monday and Mel Tucker sent offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic and tight ends coach Ted Gilmore to talk to the media along with senior tight ends Tyler Hunt and Daniel Barker.

All of them provided some good tidbits and updates to the media.

Senior TE Tyler Hunt

It’s good to hear about the edge guys playing well because hopes are high for Khris Bogle. As for the added weight from the Chick-fil-A meal, you can’t fault him because that’s a deadly combo.

TE Coach Ted Gilmore

There seems to be a lot of high praise for Maliq Carr here which I love to see. His ceiling is incredibly high and if he can work on that blocking, he can see the field extensively. It also looks like hoops may be on the back burner which is probably the best-case scenario for him.

OL Coach Chris Kapilovic

The lack of interior depth is concerning, but it sounds like everyone is getting healthy. You have to like the Brian Greene praise as well as the Jarek Broussard tidbit. I truly think Broussard is going to be Kenneth Walker III lite. This group is the most important on the team for offensive success.

Senior TE Daniel Barker

Michigan State is building a brand and it’s cool to see guys from other programs taking note. Daniel Barker seems to have bought in and he is pushing Carr to be better.

Bonus tidbit

Yeah, I don’t know about you, but I’m buying about 500 shares of Tre Mosley stock right now.

The first full week of practice is in full swing and more news and notes will come out over the course of the week; I’ll do my best to keep you updated.
