This win over the Wolverines was Izzo\u2019s 700th of his career. And it couldn&#8217;t have come on a better night than Tuesday. A rivalry win on Izzo\u2019s 69th birthday? It really can\u2019t get any better than that.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">That\u2019s a LOT of wins. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wIkchxakcW\">pic.twitter.com\/wIkchxakcW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Michigan State Men&#39;s Basketball (@MSU_Basketball) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MSU_Basketball\/status\/1752543289490702638?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 31, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h3>Izzo hits 700 wins<\/h3>\n<p>Tom Izzo\u2019s all-time record now moves to 700-288. He has accomplished so much in his career at <a href=\"https:\/\/msuspartans.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\">Michigan State<\/a>, but this accomplishment is one of his best in my opinion. This accomplishment speaks to Izzo\u2019s long term success at MSU, something most coaches don\u2019t have. Many coaches have a great season here or there, but not many can have the run of success that Izzo has had.<\/p>\n<p>When thinking about this accomplishment, Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press shared that Izzo loved <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/chrissolari\/status\/1752550215125754131?s=46&amp;t=HzWIFqTQRS5Hzrpk6cFU3A\">seeing former players in the building is what makes it special.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Izzo also spoke on the part of this accomplishment that <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/spartansrivals\/status\/1752553032062038172?s=46&amp;t=HzWIFqTQRS5Hzrpk6cFU3A\">impresses him the most<\/a>. He said that, \u201c700 wins at the same school is even impressive to me&#8230; I am really honored and proud.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Finally, in true Tom Izzo fashion, he had to <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/justinthind\/status\/1752544498607853623?s=46&amp;t=HzWIFqTQRS5Hzrpk6cFU3A\">poke some fun at this milestone<\/a>. He shared that \u201cI\u2019m still like 520 games behind Mike Krzyzewski, so let\u2019s keep that in perspective.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Other career accomplishments<\/h3>\n<p>On top of win No. 700, Izzo has had many other career accomplishments. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2016 and is MSU\u2019s all-time wins leader. Tom also leads the Big Ten in all-time wins and has the longest streak of NCAA Tournament appearances by a single coach at 25.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan State also has countless program achievements while Izzo\u2019s been the head coach as well. This includes 10 Big Ten regular season titles, six Big Ten Tournament titles, eight Final Fours, and one national title.<\/p>\n<p>This accomplishment now has me thinking how many wins he\u2019ll get to in his career. Could he get to 800 wins? I\u2019m honestly not sure. If I had to guess, I do think he will reach 800 wins at some point. <a href=\"https:\/\/spartanshadows.com\/tom-izzo-talks-about-retirement-plans-in-cbs-sports-interview\/\">Izzo recently spoke publicly about his retirement plans<\/a>, and it sounded like he won\u2019t be retiring any time soon. A hundred more wins likely will take 4-5 more seasons, and I think Izzo could be MSU\u2019s coach for that long still.<\/p>\n<p>As you might guess, however, Izzo isn\u2019t satisfied.
