{"id":19154,"date":"2024-09-09T14:15:05","date_gmt":"2024-09-09T18:15:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spartanshadows.com\/?p=19154"},"modified":"2024-09-09T14:15:05","modified_gmt":"2024-09-09T18:15:05","slug":"michigan-state-football-receivers-past-present-huge-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spartanshadows.com\/?p=19154","title":{"rendered":"Michigan State football WRs past and present had a huge weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>If you&#8217;re a fan of Michigan State football receivers coach Courtney Hawkins, you&#8217;re ecstatic about what happened this past weekend.<\/h2>\n<p>If you currently have stock in Michigan State football receivers coach Courtney Hawkins, you might soon be getting offers to buy your shares.<\/p>\n<p>The fifth-year receivers coach for Michigan State has produced some solid NFL talent in his short time in East Lansing such as Jalen Nailor, Jayden Reed, and Keon Coleman, but he&#8217;s also been responsible for some of the success of current college receivers.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re a Hawkins truther, you were validated this past weekend across both college football and the NFL.<\/p>\n<p>Hawkins&#8217; current and former receivers went nuclear.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s start with the most obvious star of the week and that was Nick Marsh. It&#8217;s clear that he&#8217;s going to be the next great Spartan wideout as he caught eight passes for 194 yards and a touchdown against Maryland.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\udd25 8 rec.<br \/>\ud83d\udd25 194 yds<br \/>\ud83d\udd25 1 TD<\/p>\n<p>Nick Marsh (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NickMarsh_11?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@NickMarsh_11<\/a>) nearly broke the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MSU_Football?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@MSU_Football<\/a> freshman receiving yards record in his <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bigten?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@bigten<\/a> debut. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/B1GFootball?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#B1GFootball<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ijy40evWhP\">pic.twitter.com\/ijy40evWhP<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Big Ten Network (@BigTenNetwork) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BigTenNetwork\/status\/1832602893980991742?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 8, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>This was the best freshman performance from a Spartan receiver since 2020 (we&#8217;ll get to that receiver shortly).<\/p>\n<p>Jaron Glover (six catches for 84 yards and a touchdown) and Montorie Foster Jr. (six catches for 53 yards and a touchdown) also had great weeks as Hawkins products.<\/p>\n<p>But let&#8217;s go outside of the Michigan State bubble to some other college wideouts who played under Hawkins.<\/p>\n<p>The first that comes to mind is Christian Fitzpatrick and it&#8217;s because he&#8217;s becoming a star at Marshall. While he never quite caught on with Michigan State after transferring in, he was also rarely healthy. He was a preseason All-American candidate with UNLV and he had a strong performance in a Week 2 win, catching five passes for 111 yards and three touchdowns. He scored a touchdown 60 percent of the time he touched the ball. Yeah, he&#8217;s a freak.<\/p>\n<p>But the success wasn&#8217;t just limited to the collegiate level.
