{"id":20528,"date":"2025-01-11T14:02:06","date_gmt":"2025-01-11T19:02:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spartanshadows.com\/?p=20528"},"modified":"2025-01-11T14:02:06","modified_gmt":"2025-01-11T19:02:06","slug":"michigan-state-football-hits-recruiting-trail-hard-with-flurry-of-offers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spartanshadows.com\/?p=20528","title":{"rendered":"Michigan State football hits recruiting trail hard with flurry of offers\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jonathan Smith and his <a href=\"https:\/\/spartanshadows.com\/michigan-state-football-locks-in-visit-with-no-1-available-transfer-ot\/\">Michigan State football<\/a> staff have been hard at work offering 11 new players between the 2026 and 2027 recruiting classes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019m a huge believer in this staff\u2019s evaluation process. It feels like they\u2019ve been in early on players before other major programs.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cornerback signee Aydan West is a great example after securing his commitment and then fending off Ohio State on signing day.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A more recent example is 2026 quarterback Kayd Coffman. Michigan State was the first Power Four school to offer him back in November. Fast forward two months later, Coffman picks up offers from Ole Miss and Iowa State in consecutive days.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Examples like these and many more get me excited every time the Spartans offer a new player.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s take a look at the flurry of new offers:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Class of 2026<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3-star EDGE Kamren Johnson (Virginia Beach, Va.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NR CB Kennedi Bailey (Atlanta, Ga.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NR IOL Jerald Mays (Pflugerville, Texas)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NR ATH Kelsey Deriso (Fayetteville, Ga.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NR S Djimon McLEndon (Tucker, Ga.)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Class of 2027<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4-star LB Amarri Irvin (Bradenton, Fla.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">OT DeMarrion Johnson (Tyler, Texas)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WR Tre Moore (Pflugerville, Texas)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WR Trey Haralson (Tyler, Texas)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ATH Victor Scott (Lancaster, Texas)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">RB CaDarius McMiller (Tyler, Texas)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The obvious pattern here is each recruit&#8217;s hometown. Likely stemming from a recruiting trip, it\u2019s clear the staff has opened their recruiting radius a bit in the 2026 and 2027 classes. The recruiting methodology in the first year for Jonathan Smith in East Lansing appeared to be: to <em>establish the region<\/em>. Now it appears they\u2019re comfortable enough to open things up and offer more players in Texas, Georgia, and other fertile recruiting grounds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Most 2027 players don&#8217;t have rankings quite yet. Recruiting sites are still sifting through the 2026 class as well. Don&#8217;t worry if a prospect doesn&#8217;t have a ranking quite yet. As these players go to more camps, complete their junior and senior seasons, and pick up more offers these rankings will become established. That said, I wouldn&#8217;t put too much stock in a site&#8217;s original ranking. This staff appears to know what they&#8217;re doing from an evaluation standpoint.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019m excited to see where all these guys rank as the recruiting cycles progress.
