Both teams look to make a strong impression in their first “real test” of the year, with the Spartans beating Western Michigan 23-6 and BC taking care of business against FCS Fordham 66-10 last week.

Both walked away with significant questions, as the Spartans failed to score offensively in the second half and the Eagles failed to record 100 rush yards on near 40 attempts after sacks were accounted for.

Last season, it was a tale of two halves for the Spartans, as a 13-6 halftime lead turned to a 19-23 loss in Chestnut Hill’s steady rain. The Eagles are running laps in the series, currently leading Michigan State football 5-1-1, dating back to 1935. The sole win was under Nick Saban nearly 30 years ago.

The staff at Spartan Shadows got together and made their score predictions for Saturday night, and for the second week in a row, it’s a clean Spartan sweep. Last week, the Spartans won, but nobody on the Shadows’ staff got particularly close.

What’s the score predictions and some projections for the game?

Daily MSU: 38-10, MSU. Michigan State’s offense finally has a pulse in the second half for the first time in Jonathan Smith’s tenure and MSU pulls away late with a pick 6 to win.

MSUMan: 35-14, MSU.

Zack Theis: 24-13, MSU.

Connor Muldowney: 31-23, MSU. Chiles finally airs it out and connects with Nick Marsh and Omari Kelly for a couple of long TDs. Defense holds strong despite Lewis Bond gashing the Spartans a few times.

Anthony: 24-20, MSU. Chiles bounces back from his 3-INT performance from a year ago. Tosses two TDs through the air and rushes for another. Joe Rossi defense stands up tall when BC has the ball and a chance to win late in the 4th.

Liam O’Malley: 28-17, MSU. Defense balls out, Chiles looks good and connects with Velling for at least 1 TD.

Chris Norman: 21-17, MSU. Defense plays well again and offense does enough to get the dub.

Emmett Matasovsky: 24-21, MSU. The Spartans survive, but the Eagles make it a game. Boston College exposes some holes in the secondary, and Lewis Bond has a touchdown. However, a late drive by Aidan Chiles and Nick Marsh put the Spartans in field goal range.

Let’s hope the winners are right, but the results are closer to accurate on Saturday night.

On Saturday, Michigan State football (1-0) returns to action, hosting the Boston College Eagles (1-0).
