At 12 a.m. ET on Thursday, Michigan State basketball could finally start reaching out to 2025 recruits, and the Spartans were busy. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the players that Michigan State reached out to first was five-star power forward Koa Peat who is currently ranked as the third-best player in the class of 2025 and he plays out of Arizona.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">2025 five-star Koa Peat tells me he&#39;s heard from the following schools since the direct contact period began: <\/p>\n<p>North Carolina, Pitt, LSU, Michigan, Texas, Arizona State, Arizona, Stanford, Virginia, Kentucky, Michigan State, Houston, Memphis, UCLA, Illinois, Nebraska, Baylor\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/jx8P8IshQQ\">pic.twitter.com\/jx8P8IshQQ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Joe Tipton (@TiptonEdits) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TiptonEdits\/status\/1669407131198472205?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 15, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Peat is a 6-foot-8 power forward that has a lot of upside and has already had many schools reach out to him. Schools like North Carolina, Kentucky, Baylor, and many others reached out shortly after he was eligible to be contacted. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What would a player like Koa add to Michigan State?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Peat would be one of the highest-ranked recruits in Michigan State history if he decided to go to the school where his older brother, Cassius, played football. Talking about a player committing, especially after they were just contacted, is crazy but you can see what the coaching staff is trying to do. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tom Izzo and his staff are trying to keep the momentum going from the 2023 class to 2024 and 2025. The coaching staff still needs to focus on the 2024 class but getting a head start on these players in the 2025 class is important. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recruiting is always changing and you never know what can happen. We have seen several different examples of how getting connected with a player at the very beginning has been a successful move for Michigan State.
