When Mel Tucker brought Kenneth Walker III in and watched him blossom into the Doak Walker Award winner, Michigan State football looked like an ideal destination for running backs.<\/p>\n
The Spartans produced a Heisman-caliber back who split time at Wake Forest. What bigger draw is there?<\/p>\n
Michigan State did land former blue-chip Wisconsin running back Jalen Berger and former Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year Jarek Broussard the following offseason. They wanted a taste of that running back magic in East Lansing. They wanted to be the next K9.<\/p>\n
And then, Kedrick Reescano committed to the 2023 class. He was one of the fastest-rising backs in the cycle but he decided to reopen his recruitment and pick Ole Miss. It was a head-scratching move. He was the second four-star running back to decommit from Michigan State in three years (Audric Estime was the other).<\/p>\n
But it seems like the 2024 class might just make up for those decommitments and the lackluster running back play in 2022.<\/p>\n
Over the weekend, Michigan State picked up a commitment from four-star running back Anthony Carrie from Tampa, Fla. Two days later, the Spartans are trending for another four-star rusher.<\/p>\n
In fact, on Monday evening, Michigan State insiders Justin Thind and Corey Robinson placed crystal balls for the Spartans to land Jason Brown. The four-star running back from Washington has some big-time offers, but he took his only planned official visit to East Lansing this past weekend and loved his trip. Enough so, in fact, to lead to a couple of crystal ball predictions.<\/p>\n
Brown is ranked the No. 90 overall recruit and eighth-best running back in the 2024 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.<\/p>\n
According to Thind, Brown would be the second-highest-ranked commit for Michigan State in the past five years.<\/p>\n
And 247Sports’ national recruiting editor Brandon Huffman said that the Spartans “took a big step” with Brown this past weekend.<\/p>\n
