That means preseason hype is at an all-time high. Big Ten analyst Andy Katz is releasing his top players in the conference and <a href=\"https:\/\/msuspartans.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\/roster\/jaden-akins\/13625\">Jaden Akins<\/a> was included today.<\/p>\n<p>Katz ranked Akins as his 17th best player in the Big Ten heading into the 2023-24 season.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Huge season loading for <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JadenAkins3?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@JadenAkins3<\/a>? \ud83d\udc40<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheAndyKatz?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@TheAndyKatz<\/a> loves the potential of the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MSU_Basketball?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@MSU_Basketball<\/a> guard, who checks in at No. 17 in the \ud835\uddde\ud835\uddee\ud835\ude01\ud835\ude07 \ud835\udfee\ud835\udfee: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ebrot1aVu6\">pic.twitter.com\/ebrot1aVu6<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Big Ten Men&#39;s Basketball (@B1GMBBall) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/B1GMBBall\/status\/1715454223268085835?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 20, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h3>Praise for Jaden Akins<\/h3>\n<p>From the short video above, it is no secret that Andy Katz thinks very highly of Akins. His potential not being scratched yet is the part that stood out to me the most. I couldn\u2019t agree more with that statement. Akins played a big role on our team last season, and that was behind both <a href=\"https:\/\/msuspartans.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\/roster\/a-j-hoggard\/13628\">AJ Hoggard<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/msuspartans.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\/roster\/tyson-walker\/13668\">Tyson Walker<\/a>, and even <a href=\"https:\/\/msuspartans.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\/roster\/joey-hauser\/12516\">Joey Hauser<\/a> at times.<\/p>\n<p>To have the great season he had a season ago as the third or fourth option is extremely impressive.<\/p>\n<p>Akins will obviously still be playing behind Hoggard and Walker this year, but I expect to see his usage go up from last season. He is a legit three-level scorer, especially showcasing his high-flying ability above the rim and elite three-point shooting. Last season, Akins shot a blistering 42 percent from three-point range. That\u2019s about as automatic as it comes in the college game. What makes Akins so difficult to defend is that he isn\u2019t just a three-point specialist. He can take guys off the dribble and is a threat in transition at all times. He\u2019s even one of our better defenders and can take on and shut down our opponent\u2019s best player.<\/p>\n<p>I would argue that Jaden could\u2019ve been even higher on this list, but to be including regardless is awesome to see.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Spartans on this list<\/h3>\n<p>Each day, the season gets closer, Andy Katz is releasing another player on his list until we reach the number one player in the conference. Two days ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/msuspartans.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\/roster\/malik-hall\/13627\">Malik Hall<\/a> made the cut as his <a href=\"https:\/\/spartanshadows.com\/malik-hall-gets-major-praise-from-big-ten-analyst-video\/\">19th best player in the Big Ten<\/a>. Jaden won\u2019t be the last Spartan included either.
