Others praised him.<\/h2>\n<p>We\u2019ve learned a lot since <a href=\"https:\/\/spartanshadows.com\/michigan-state-football-loses-fan-favorite-lb-darius-snow-to-portal\/\">Michigan State football<\/a> hired former Oregon State head coach, Jonathan Smith, on Saturday. One of those things being the turmoil going on within the Oregon State fanbase. I\u2019m going to give the benefit of the doubt to some of the fans in Corvallis because they\u2019re victims of conference realignment. Oregon State and Washington State are the only two schools left from the old Pac-12 and it seems like joining the Mountain West is the likely next step.<\/p>\n<p><em>To summarize: Their successful, former player head coach left and they are no longer in a conference.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Tough pill to swallow.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll ignore some of the more slanderous takes from that fanbase. Fans don\u2019t know everything but the range of emotions we all go through during games is commonplace across fanbases. Upgrade or downgrade? Spoiler alert: they\u2019re all upgrades.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>He\u2019s easy to root for &amp; you\u2019ll like him.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Upgrade\n<ul>\n<li>From what I gather, Mel Tucker wasn\u2019t totally well-liked towards the end of his tenure. Seems like post-Peach Bowl Tucker was a lot different\u2026 Benjamins change people.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>He\u2019ll win some big games.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Upgrade\n<ul>\n<li>As of this moment in time, I would accept simply winning any game. Going 9-15 the last two seasons has been a grind.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>He\u2019ll go for it on fourth down, (including a few times he shouldn\u2019t)<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>Upgrade\n<ul>\n<li>Glad we are adding another football coach to the state who isn\u2019t afraid to put his nuts on the line and go for it. As long as he\u2019s smart about it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>He\u2019ll make it fun again for fans<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>Neutral?\n<ul>\n<li>Outside of winning games, I\u2019m not sure how a head coach can make things fun for fans. If Smith keeps us competitive and in contention each year, the fans will have fun.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>His offense reminds me of the 49ers<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>Upgrade\n<ul>\n<li>You\u2019re telling me we have a Shanahan-like coach? I will take it every day of the week and twice on Sundays.\n<ul>\n<li>Brennan Parachek = George Kittle<\/li>\n<li>Jaron Glover = Brandon Ayuk<\/li>\n<li>Stanton Ramil = Trent Williams<\/li>\n<li>Tyrell Henry = Deebo Samuel<\/li>\n<li>Jordan Hall = Fred Warner<\/li>\n<li>Jalen Thompson = Nick Bosa<\/li>\n<li>Zion Young = Chase Young<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>He\u2019s loyal\u2026 sometimes to a fault.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>I don\u2019t 100 percent agree with this but Smith was dealt a bad hand. He had to leave his alma mater if he wanted to stay relevant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>His teams always improve and often peak late in the season.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Upgrade\n<ul>\n<li>Seeing any sort of improvement at any point in the season is something we have not seen in the last five years. Big upgrade.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tight ends will thrive.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Upgrade\n<ul>\n<li>Where have I seen this before?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>He won\u2019t embarrass you<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li><em>Major upgrade<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>Don\u2019t think I have to explain this one<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Beaver fans have every right to be mad. The situation merits a complete meltdown. That said, \u2018off color\u2019 takes about serious issues like sexual assault are unacceptable.<\/p>\n<p>John Conzano\u2019s tweet does a great job summarizing the good things I\u2019m seeing from the OSU fanbase in my opinion.
