There have been over 1,000 players entering their names, and <a href=\"https:\/\/spartanshadows.com\/michigan-state-football-aidan-chiles-ranked-no-1-transfer-portal-qb\/\">Michigan State football<\/a> coach Jonathan Smith is keeping his eye on some key guys.<\/p>\n<p>One of those guys could be true freshman cornerback and Oregon State starter Jermod McCoy.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Oregon State true freshman CB Jermod McCoy (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Jermodmccoy?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Jermodmccoy<\/a>) has entered the transfer portal, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mzenitz?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@mzenitz<\/a> and I have learned. <\/p>\n<p>Started several games this season and finished the year with 31 tackles and 2 INTs. He was one of the best freshman cornerbacks in the country and that&#8217;s a position group of need for the Spartans. The fact that Michigan State has Blue Adams, McCoy&#8217;s position coach from Oregon State, should only help the Spartans&#8217; chances.<\/p>\n<p>The Spartans have some key guys back at corner like Charles Brantley, Dillon Tatum, and Chance Rucker (hopefully) but adding a guy like McCoy gives that group some depth and experience. He has starting experience in the Power Five and played really well.<\/p>\n<p>The familiarity with Smith and Adams is only going to make this decision tougher on McCoy who hails from Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Early on, the favorite to land the former three-star would have to be Michigan State as he didn&#8217;t have any other major offers out of high school. Sure, he could go back home, but why not follow the coaches who gave him a chance and continue to play on the biggest stage? He could come right in and earn a starting spot from day one.<\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t think Smith and Adams are on the phone with him right now, you&#8217;re probably mistaken.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan State needs all the secondary help it can get after a horrible past few years and McCoy would be a great start to the Smith era.
