Michigan State football landed its second commitment in as many days with Justin Denson starting July with some fireworks.
Michigan State football is on fire.
To start the month of June, Michigan State only had three members committed in its 2024 class. The Spartans are now up to 11 after four days in July. June was a huge month for the Spartans and it looks like they’ve carried the momentum over.
The most recent addition is three-star defensive back Justin Denson.
Michigan State made its offer to Denson in April and he took three visits to East Lansing. Denson had a top 12 list that included schools like Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and more.
Even prior to officially committing to the Spartans, Denson was already trying to recruit other Michigan State targets like Jamari Howard and David Stone to team up with him:
The secondary has been an area of concern for the Spartans the last couple of seasons but the team has now added multiple players for the 2024 class to help on the back end. Denson now joins Jaylen Thompson, Reggie Powers, and Camren Campbell. The Spartans have done a great job building the defensive front, now it appears they’re intent on balancing the defensive attack.
The Michigan State coaching staff seems to be taking a more narrow view in their recruiting approach this year from previous cycles. They identified guys they really like that appear to fit the culture, and really pursued their guys. The name of the game in college sports now isn’t just recruiting players but also keeping them. The approach the staff has taken recently will likely help them do just that.
This time around there seems to be a lot more players recruiting players. This helps build that family-like atmosphere that Michigan State wants for its team. Players aren’t just coming to East Lansing for the staff, they’re coming for each other.
The Spartans are shooting up the rankings boards with their 2024 class and there are more commits on the way. It can’t be overstated how impressive this stretch is after coming off a 5-7 season.
