Tom Izzo and Michigan State basketball were relieved to hear their names called on Selection Sunday. Watch their reactions.
The NCAA Tournament selection committee did not make it easy on Michigan State basketball, that’s for sure. The Spartans were sweating this Selection Sunday out, especially after their resume took a large hit thanks to the many upsets across the country on Satuday. But everyone, and I mean everyone, breathed a huge sigh of relief after MSU’s name was called during the Selection Show.
This isn’t a norm for the Spartans when it comes to the Selection Show. Usually they know they’re comfortably in the tournament and are just waiting to see what seed/opponent they’ll get. However, this year we all were just hoping to make it in.
I’m sure many of you had some crazy reactions after MSU’s name was announced on Sunday, but let’s take a look and see how the team and Tom Izzo reacted.
Michigan State reacts to making the tournament
Here is the brief video posted online of the team and Izzo’s reaction to hearing their name called on the Selection Show.
The reaction from the team is pretty standard. Nobody looked too excited, but they were all happy (and maybe relieved) to see they made the tournament. Izzo on the other hand gave us an interesting reaction.
MSU unfortunately was in the last region announced during the Selection Show. That means we had even more time to ponder if MSU would make it in. You can even see the extreme nervousness on Izzo’s face in this video. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Izzo this nervous about anything before.
That worry quickly turned into a huge smile after Michigan State’s name appeared. Izzo also shared how worried he was with Chris Solari with the Detroit Free Press following the show.
