What a great time to be a fan of Detroit and Michigan State sports. The Tigers are one win away from the ALCS, the Red Wings start their season on Thursday night, the Lions are 3-1 and one of the Super Bowl favorites, and the Pistons start their season soon all while Michigan State football looks to be trending up (the three straight losses are not as discouraging as one might think). Michigan State basketball, too, is about to return to action as practice has started and the Izzone Campout and Midnight Madness were just last week.
Two worlds collided on Wednesday afternoon as Tom Izzo took his team to the Detroit Tigers game in a suite where they witnessed a 3-0 playoff win.
But while Izzo was enjoying the Tigers game with his team, he knew in the back of his mind that there was a lot of work to be done both for the upcoming season as well as the 2025 recruiting class which currently sits at zero commits.
That could all change on Thursday evening.
Jordan Scott, a four-star prospect from Virginia, is choosing on Thursday night between Virginia Tech, Maryland, and Michigan State. And with his final visit taking place this past weekend in East Lansing for Midnight Madness and the Izzone Campout, it feels like the Spartans have all the momentum.
Scott is one of the top targets on the board for Michigan State which has had a tough stretch recently with misses on Darius Adams, Jalen Haralson, Trent Sisley, and Trey McKenney. There are also rumors that Dwayne Aristode is trending elsewhere.
So landing a top-60 recruit like Scott would be the shot in the arm that this recruiting class needs. And it could set off a domino effect if a guy like Cam Ward wants to follow suit and join the Spartans’ 2025 class.
The announcement is at 6 p.m. ET and my guess here just based on momentum is Michigan State.
