Michigan State basketball is going on a hot streak this offseason. While the basketball team is months out from their first action of the year, the grind does not stop for Tom Izzo and the Spartans.

Between the news of Michigan State basketball scheduling a home-and-home exhibition with UConn, and the commitment of point guard Carlos Medlock Jr., Tom Izzo is having an all-time week. That good news continued today, as four-star power forward Julius Avent announced he would be officially visiting Michigan State on Aug. 30.

Meet the incoming Michigan State basketball visitors

Avent (No. 88 nationally, via the 247Sports Composite) becomes the fourth confirmed visitor for the Spartans, joining fellow four-stars Medlock Jr. (No. 118), forward Quinn Costello (No. 96), and shooting guard Jasiah Jervis (No. 64).

The latter three will all visit Michigan State during their “Grind Week”, where former Spartan basketball greats are on hand to work out with current and future players. Grind Week visits tend to receive more attention, as Tom Izzo is showing these prospects exactly what comes with being a Michigan State basketball, alongside the championship culture at MSU.

As of this writing, Avent is the only prospect with other official visits announced. The New Jersey native will be visiting Penn State the week after MSU, then Xavier, Providence, and Seton Hall. He stands at a reported 6-foot-8.

Costello holds 28 other offers, including Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Providence, Purdue, and Texas. The Massachusetts native also has the most size of the announced Spartan visitors, at 6-foot-10.

Jervis has 17 other offers, via 247Sports. These offers include Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Northwestern, Tennessee, and Texas. He stands at a reported 6-foot-4.

With the sole commitment being that of Medlock Jr., Michigan State basketball currently stands with the No. 14 ranked recruiting class. The Spartans stand to lose four players to graduation upon the conclusion of the 2025-2026 season, those being forward/small-ball center Jaxon Kohler, center Carson Cooper, incoming Samford transfer guard Trey Fort, and guard Nick Sanders.

Michigan State Media and Information Management Class of '22. Emmett covers primarily football, recruiting, and basketball for Spartan Shadows, alongside editing for Gator Digest. He has also written for Spartan Avenue, Basic Blues, and Hail WV.
