Michigan State receiver transfer Keon Coleman has scheduled his first official visit since entering the portal.
After the news of Keon Coleman entering the transfer portal, Michigan State football fans were stunned.
The day following the news, there were reports of Mel Tucker and Keon having a sit-down meeting in Mels office. This led a lot of fans to think, or at least hope, that Mel was making a final pitch to attempt to keep Keon in East Lansing. Who knows what was said in that meeting, but it apparently hasn’t quite closed the deal.
Since entering the portal Keon’s name has been linked to LSU and Oklahoma the most. Other programs are starting to make their push for the coveted wide receiver now as well.
In fact, 247Sports is now reporting that Keon’s first official visit is on the books. He will be taking a visit to Florida State this weekend.
This is a major visit because it’s the first one since he’s hit the portal which means that there’s serious interest both ways. Jordan Travis and the Seminoles offer improved quarterback play over Payton Thorne and I’m sure the NIL at Florida State is solid as well.
The Seminoles do return a 900-yard receiver in Johnny Wilson next season so it’s not a guarantee that Coleman would be WR1. He would have to fight for that job whereas he’d be the clear WR1 in East Lansing. Would he sacrifice a potential WR1 role for better quarterback play? I think we’re about to find out after this visit.
Michigan State fans are left holding a sliver of hope that Keon could still return to MSU like his friend Charles Brantley, but with him now taking official visits, that looks unlikely.
