In a Instagram post by Michigan State football quarterback Alessio Milivojevic, the Spartans received the news that he will be returning for another year with the words “run it back” for the 2026 season.

This is massive news for the team, and there’s a few reasons why. The biggest reason is just his return in general. In his short stint as starting QB and the occasional mop-up series, Milivojevic had 10 touchdowns to 3 interceptions. He showed his toughness, his arm talent, and that he was willing to stand in the pocket and take a hit. He also showed growth throughout the few games and abilities to use his legs as he got more comfortable with the system.

The second reason why this is important is because it shows Coach Fitzgerald putting time and effort in keeping the key players from last year’s roster. In an article I wrote about players Coach Fitzgerald has to keep, Milivojevic was one of my first names on the list. You want to have a QB that you can trust and has talent, and the Illinois native showed that in his few games. You also want to keep the leader of the offense at the school, and with the redshirt freshman taking the starting role at QB , he is the face of the offense.

The last reason is because of the future. When you have a QB with potential, you want to keep him around the program. Not only does Milivojevic have the potential, but he has time on his side. He has 3 years of eligibility. Now that does not necessarily mean he will use all of them, but the more eligibility, the better.

With Alessio’s return, it seems like they have their guy at quarterback. This will allow the coaching staff to build the offense around him, and find guys and coaches that can allow him to drive. What a job by Coach Fitzgerald, as this is a great start to building this offense and team for next season!
