On Thursday, Michigan State basketball opened their run in the NCAA Tournament strong, with a 92-67 win over the North Dakota State Bison. The Spartans powered through a slow start to cruise to a 20-point halftime lead. Carson Cooper led the Spartans with a double-double, becoming the first Spartan to post a 20-point, 10-rebound effort while going 75% from the field since Magic Johnson in 1979.

Spartan Shadows had both myself and photographer Nolan Gerou on coverage, and here are his best shots from the opening round of March Madness.

Michigan State Media and Information Management Class of '22. Emmett covers primarily football, recruiting, and basketball for Spartan Shadows, alongside writing for Detroit Lions on SI. He has also written for Spartan Avenue, Basic Blues, and Hail WV.
