After missing the last game in Maui, fans were worried about Jase Richardson.

The status of arguably the best player on the roster and the freshman who has broken out early in the 2024-25 season was up in the air and he had taken a beating over the week leading up to Thanksgiving.

Richardson hurt his ankle against Samford the week before the Maui Invitational and he was listed as healthy for the tournament as he traveled with the team. He played in both of the first two games and fared well but he took a major beating against Memphis. He was battered and bruised and it felt like he spent more time on the ground after hard fouls than he did upright.

For that reason, Tom Izzo kept him out of the North Carolina game on Wednesday. Well, that and the fact that he had an ankle injury a week prior and playing in three straight days could have reaggravated that.

But there was some concern that Richardson may have had a lingering injury, especially since he was held out of Friday’s practice.

Jim Comparoni of SpartanMag attended practice on Monday night and had some positive news regarding Jase Richardson.

Comparoni said that Richardson was a full participant in Monday’s practice after missing Friday for precautionary reasons and he looked completely healthy and good to go for the Big Ten opener against Minnesota on Wednesday.

This is great news considering Richardson is the team’s third-leading scorer at 10.4 points per game to go along with 2.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists. He’s also shooting a team-best 54 percent from three and 65 percent from the floor. Those are incredible numbers when you consider he’s taken 13 threes and 40 total field goals. He’s also 14-of-17 (82.4%) from the free throw line. Richardson is as consistent as they come.

All signs are pointing to him playing his usual 20-plus minutes against Minnesota on Wednesday night.
