In a historic moment for the Michigan State football program, the Spartans finally have their first ever Super Bowl MVP from a Spartan letterman thanks to Kenneth Walker III.

Of course, everyone knows the culture-defining game where Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback Nick Foles upset Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. Some might mention the fact that Foles played at MSU, but Foles never got a letter from the team. Instead, Foles transferred to Arizona in 2008 after his redshirt season in East Lansing, so he does not count.

Instead, Spartan fans were forced to wait until 2021, when Kenneth Walker III transferred in from Wake Forest. The former Demon Deacon exploded in his debut, rushing for 264 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns on only 23 carries against Northwestern.

After that, Walker only played better, carrying the Spartans to an 11-2 record, and Peach Bowl victory while winning the Walter Camp Player of the Year and the Doak Walker Award, given annually to the best running back in the nation.

It was heavily discussed in the nationally media landscape when Walker was not invited to the Heisman ceremony in New York City. In fact, in the Walter Camp Player of the Year’s history, 58-of-59 of the award winners were at least invited; Walker was the only one not.

In April, Walker was drafted to the Seattle Seahawks in the second round of the NFL Draft. After a couple of seasons as the main back, Seattle added UCLA graduate Zach Charbonnet to the roster, which greatly reduced Walker’s overall numbers.

But in the playoffs in 2026, Charbonnet tore his ACL in the Divisional round against the San Francisco 49ers, which allowed Walker to be the main feature back in Seattle’s offense. This decision by head coach Mike McDonald would prove to be a good one, as Walker once again exploded.

In the Divisional round against the 49ers, Walker rushed for 116 yards and three touchdowns on 19 total carries. The NFC Championship was similar, with 62 rushing yards and one touchdown on the ground.

However, the Super Bowl was Walker’s best game: 27 carries, 135 rushing yards, and a 30-yard longest run helped propel Seattle to two Super Bowl victories.

Walker was named the Super Bowl MVP, and has recently been seen at Disney Land with Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold, and although most Michigan fans continue to troll and label Walker as a “Wake Forest running back”, everyone really knows that he came out of East Lansing.
