LaRue Zamorano decommits from Michigan State football

When it rains, it pours. Michigan State football lost Jace Clarizio to Alabama last week, lost a home game to Rutgers with a bowl berth on the line, lost Demetrice Martin to UCLA, and has now lost three-star cornerback LaRue Zamorano to a decommitment.

Following Martin’s departure for UCLA, Zamorano posted a cryptic tweet on X about “decisions” and it looks like he already made up his mind.

Zamorano retweeted a report that stated he had decommitted from Michigan State.

The bad news has rolled in since Saturday’s season finale loss and it feels like the sky might be falling right now, but this is normal post-season fallout for teams that don’t make bowl games. Heck, it’s normal for most teams and especially ones in the midst of a rebuild.

So while it would be easy to pile on and say this is a demoralizing loss for Michigan State, it’s to be expected after the Spartans’ top recruiter left for the same position at a school closer to Zamorano’s home. It wouldn’t be shocking to see him join his former future position coach in Los Angeles with the Bruins. It’s going to hurt to lose both along with Clarizio, but this isn’t a huge shock. The Martin loss hurts far more.

Michigan State is going to have to pick up the pieces after the disaster that has been the final week of the season and really the final month of the regular season which saw them go from “where will we be bowling” to 1-3 against the likes of Indiana, Illinois, Purdue, and Rutgers to finish 5-7 with no bowl berth. The Spartans haven’t made a bowl game since 2021 and have just one since Mark Dantonio retired.

This will be a massive offseason for Jonathan Smith. It’s time for him to live in the transfer portal.
