There was a Spartan-on-Spartan crime on Saturday night as Max Christie dunked on Draymond Green during the Warriors vs. Lakers game.
It’s not often that you see players from the same college play against each other in the NBA. Rosters are so small and everyone is so talented that it’s become a rare occurrence in the NBA. That wasn’t the case on Saturday night. Former Michigan State star Max Christie of the Los Angeles Lakers took on Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors.
Max and Draymond don’t have much history between them, mainly considering how far apart their tenures are from each other in East Lansing, but we all know the special culture that exists at Michigan State so I’m sure they’ve both gotten to know each other pretty well.
Draymond had the far better game in the Lakers’ 145-144 double-overtime win. Green flirted with a triple-double, finishing with eight points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists. But it was Christie who had the highlight play of the night.
Max Christie dunks on Draymond Green
Midway through the first quarter, a rolling Christie got the pass from LeBron James after setting a screen for him. He caught the ball and immediately went up for the slam where Draymond was waiting for him. Green is one of the best defenders in the NBA, but Christie got the last laugh this time with this monster finish.
This all but ends the highlight reel for Christie as he finished with only two points. But what a way to score your only two points of the game.
Season update
Christie has been having an average season so far but he’s gotten six starts for the Lakers. He is averaging 4.9 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. And as you’d probably guess, Draymond is having a much better year. As a regular starter for the Warriors, Draymond is averaging 9.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.8 assists. Draymond may not score as much as he used to, but he is still the same all-around player he’s always been.
Both the Lakers and Warriors have some work to do for the rest of their season. The Lakers are 10th in the Western Conference standings and the Warriors are 12th. However, the Lakers did win the NBA’s first-ever in-season tournament, giving Christie his first NBA championship to his name.
Christie and the Lakers’ next game is on Monday against Houston and the Warriors and Draymond play Philadelphia on Tuesday.
