Former Michigan State football coach Mel Tucker is suing the school over wrongful termination, according to reports.

What an interesting past 12 months it’s been for Michigan State football.

Last August, fans were excited about potentially turning the program around in year four of Mel Tucker. He was selling hope once again after a disastrous 2022 season and fans were buying back in — mostly because of the new uniforms.

A month later, he was suspended following the news of an incident that took place between Tucker and Brenda Tracy. Less than a month after that, he was officially fired and Michigan State promoted Harlon Barnett to interim head coach and brought Mark Dantonio back to the sidelines. Fast forward to the end of the season and he was replaced by Jonathan Smith who was hired away from Oregon State.

So in a span of about three months, Michigan State went from Tucker to Barnett to Smith. The program experienced a ton of change.

Everyone was shocked over the Tucker situation which led to a new coaching staff being hired in November, but no one really disagreed with the move by Alan Haller. It was a bad look for him to try and get involved with Tracy who worked with Michigan State as a sexual assault prevention activist. You just simply cannot get involved with university vendors. And Tucker did.

While he was fired for just cause, it seems like he’s now throwing a Hail Mary.

According to reports, Tucker is suing Michigan State for wrongful termination.

The suit contends school leaders “manipulated the process to create a pretextual and false basis to terminate Plaintiff’s employment.”

“By improperly weaponizing the University’s investigative procedures against Plaintiff, the Defendants have caused, and continue to cause, Plaintiff to experience severe emotional harm and suffering, and have caused hundreds of millions in damages,” the suit states.

I don’t know about you, but this just doesn’t feel like a lawsuit that Tucker is going to win. It sounds like he’s trying to claim that the school didn’t investigate this properly and he was defamed and slandered in the process which cost him his 10-year, $95 million contract. No, he did that on his own with his own actions.

Let’s hope this suit is squashed and we can finally move on. This should be yet another incomplete Hail Mary drawn up by Tucker.
