Following a 34-point win on Thursday night to improve to 4-0 in Big Ten play, Michigan State basketball has an opportunity to add to its NCAA Tournament resume on Sunday afternoon with a win at Northwestern.
The Wildcats are just 1-3 in conference play but they’re more dangerous than they look. They beat Illinois already and have lost to Penn State and Iowa on the road by a total of five points. This team is a couple of bounces away from being 12-3 on the year and 3-1 in conference action.
Vegas thinks this game will be tight as it has Michigan State as a three-point favorite.
What do our writers think about the big road battle for the Spartans on Sunday?
Connor Muldowney: This one feels like it should be a comfortable win for Michigan State but Northwestern has been a thorn in Tom Izzo’s side for about a decade-plus now. The Wildcats will keep this one close for 30 minutes before Michigan State surges late and closes the door. Michigan State wins 80-69.
Maxwell Klitzke: Michigan State 79, Northwestern 64
Anthony Garvert: Michigan State 72, Northwestern 66
Brendon Pricco: Michigan State 67, Northwestern 71
DailyMSU: Michigan State 73, Northwestern 68
MSUMan: Michigan State is due for an off game but it has enough depth to pull it off. Northwestern starts desperately fouling and comes up short. Michigan State 79, Northwestern 78.
Emmett Matasovsky: Michigan State 75, Northwestern 67
Chris Norman: Michigan State 78, Northwestern 69
Zack Theis: Michigan State 70, Northwestern 63
As you can see, all but one of our writers believe that Michigan State basketball will improve to 5-0 in Big Ten play after a solid road win over Northwestern on Sunday. The Wildcats are going to put up a fight but Michigan State will be too much.
Or should we listen to Vegas’ warning and believe that this one will come down to the final minutes.
Sunday’s noon showdown in Evanston should be a good one.
