Don’t look now, but Tom Izzo and Michigan State basketball are heating up on the recruiting trail.
The Spartan men’s basketball program received more good news from the recruiting front on Tuesday. This time, it’s another class of 2025 commit in power forward Cam Ward from Upper Marlboro, Md.
Ward confirmed this on Tuesday evening on a live with 247Sports.
The Largo High School product is the 50th-ranked prospect in the class of 2025, per the 247Sports Composite. The four-star prospect stands 6-foot-7 and weighs about 210 pounds. Ward is also considered the second-best prospect from Maryland behind center Eric Reibe.
Ward becomes the second commit for Tom Izzo in the 2025 recruiting class. He joins four-star shooting guard Jordan Scott who ranks as the No. 91 prospect in the country in the 247Sports Composite. The Spartans beat out home state Maryland, Virginia, and Kansas State for his services.
The four-star forward is a versatile scorer in the mid-range game. He excels at shooting and using his length. He does not quite have any consistency from deep yet, but he is working on developing that. Defensively, he will probably have no issue translating to the physical play of the Big Ten. Ward likes to rebound the ball and can do so with ease. He will be efficient in mid range scoring offense and defending the paint with a bigger center.
Should Ward develop that consistency beyond the arc, his offensive ceiling would be major. He is coming off a very productive season in the EYBL where he averaged just a shade over 20 points a game.
This is another good get for Izzo. Both Izzo and Spartan fans alike will love Ward’s energy and basketball IQ. He can be a big part of a solid group moving forward. Izzo’s comments recently about feeling as energized as ever to build and compete should match up nicely with the timeline of class. It will be interesting to see what other pieces may land with both Ward and Scott when the class of 2025 is finalized.
Welcome to East Lansing, Cam. Go green.
