Michigan State basketball fans rejoice. There’s a way we can all watch the first Spain exhibition game for the Spartans.
Earlier this week, Jaden Akins hinted at the game being streamed for fans to watch. On Thursday, it became official. The Spartans play on Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. ET and fans can watch via the official Michigan State basketball Instagram account (linked here).
The team is currently on a week-long trip to Spain, making stops in Madrid, Valencia, and Barcelona – 3 games are expected to be played:
Thursday, Aug. 15 — 1 p.m. ET
Sunday, Aug. 18 — TBA
Tuesday, Aug. 20 — TBA
There are so many storylines fans are following this offseason – I’d have to write a novel to cover every one. Three big ones come to mind.
Xavier Booker’s size and development
The talented five-star recruit out of high school was played less than fans had hoped last year. Tom Izzo made it clear that Booker was a work in progress. In order to be an effective Big Ten center, Booker needed to add weight and improve his defense. Fans are hoping to get a glimpse of the progress made over the offseason.
Portal additions: Frankie Fidler and Szymon Zapala
Two key players were added to the portal this offseason – Frankie Fidler from Omaha and Szymon Zapala from Longwood. This will be our first look at the transfers. Fidler is expected to be an elite shooter, offering support from beyond the arc. Zapala received praise from Izzo this offseason indicating his transfer might provide the team with more than just depth.
Incoming freshmen
The 2024 class consisted of three players: Jase Richardson, Kur Teng, and Jesse McCulloch. Over the summer, Izzo highlighted Teng as potentially being the team’s best shooter. Could MSU improve from the 3-point-line this season?
Again, there are many things to look out for. These are the first three that come to mind.
Tune in on Thursday at 1 p.m. ET on MSU’s Instagram to watch.
