Michigan State basketball offers 2 elite bigs

Michigan State basketball season is inching closer as the days go by. In turn, negotiations are continuing to pick up between recruits and coaches. Tom Izzo and the Spartans have had a flurry of news in the last few days, so what did you miss?

Michigan State basketball offers duo of elite bigs to begin the week

As Michigan State football kicked off on Tuesday, with Tom Izzo in attendance at practice, the basketball coach had already put the work in the previous day. Jalyn Collingwood, a 2026 four-star from Washington, D.C., announced his Spartan offer at 5 p.m. the previous day.

Collingwood is ranked as the No. 207 player in the class, via the 247Sports Composite. He holds 11 offers, and has set a visit to the other MSU, Mississippi State, for the weekend of Sept. 12. Boston College, Butler, Iowa State, and Texas Tech are all noteworthy as his other major offers.

Two short days later, Izzo had seen enough of another recruit to offer. Ethan Taylor, a 2026 five-star, announced his offer from the Spartans. Taylor is ranked the top center in his class and the No. 21 prospect via the composite.

He holds at least 15 other offers, with no announced visits as of this writing. His point guard for this year will certainly be trying to recruit him, as Taylor will play for Link Academy, with 2026 Spartan commit Carlos Medlock Jr. running the floor for the Missouri high school this season. Taylor’s other notable offers include Purdue, Tennessee, Kansas, Missouri, Indiana, and Iowa.

Kansas is currently listed as the early favorite, with “warm” interest via 247Sports.

Medlock Jr. is currently the lone Spartan commit in the early days for the 2026 class. The Spartans also will be bringing in forward Quinn Costello and guard Jasiah Jervis in for Grind Week in September. The week before, Izzo and the Spartans host forward Julius Avent.

With two more big offers, it is clear to see a focus for the class.
