A couple of Michigan State football players have been ruled out for the season by a team spokesperson on Saturday.

Per a Michigan State football spokesperson, both redshirt sophomore Caleb Gash and sophomore Andrew Brinson IV have been ruled out with season-ending injuries.

Gash, a defensive back from South Lyon, Mich., was an effective special teams contributor during Week 1’s game against Western Michigan. His only tackle thus far in his career came against the Broncos on a kickoff play, where Gash instantly became a fan favorite amongst the MSU fanbase for his aggressiveness on the gridiron.

The former zero-star prospect coming out of high school made the travel roster last season as a walk-on, and contributed on kickoff coverage and punt return. During the Western Michigan game, Gash was replaced by Anthony Pinnace III after his injury.

Brinson also only has one total tackle during his collegiate career, as it came last season during the Ohio State game.

The Tampa, Fla., product committed to Michigan State as a member of the 2024 class, with other offers from Oregon State, UCF, and Wisconsin. Standing at 6-foot-1, 184 pounds, Brinson was recruited by secondary coach Blue Adams not only at Michigan State, but also during his time at Oregon State before he moved to East Lansing.

Clearly Adams and the rest of the staff as a whole see something special in Brinson. Fending off those big-time programs put a keen amount of interest in the staff’s eyes for Brinson as a prospect.

Both players have not seen much playing time thus far into their colligate careers, but both Gash and Brinson could be eligible for a medical redshirts for this season as a whole. Though, medical redshirts have to be applied for at the end of a player’s eligibility.

The news came out right before Saturday’s game against Youngstown State. An MSU spokesperson told members of the media about Gash and Brinson as it had just been confirmed by the medical staff.
