Michigan State football is getting ready to kick off its 2025 season on Friday, and here are the game-day improvements I’d like to see.
In this week’s newsletter from new AD J Batt reviewing his last couple months on the job, there was one main topic that caught my attention and it was the game-day section. Michigan State football fans have been wanting improvements to the game-day experience, and we have gotten some already under Batt.
Those improvements include tailgating at Munn, new scoreboards, and a new sound system at Spartan Stadium.
These are all improvements that should make game-day more attractive for fans to attend and a much needed improvement to a sound system that is mediocre, to put it lightly. These are just the few things that Batt specifically mentioned but he did mention a few other improvements to game day that he won’t spoil.
Because of that, I wanted to include improvements to game day that I would love to have done.
1. Fireworks
Fireworks is something that we have been seeing added to more and more football stadiums and in sporting events all across the country. It’s a simple addition but something that can be added that not only gets fans going but something to look forward to every time Michigan State football scores. Imagine seeing green and white fireworks lighting up the sky on the side of Spartan Stadium throughout the game.
This is one little improvement that I think MSU is hinting at heading into Friday’s game.
2. Bringing back the chariot
The days of the “Deep End” are long gone and should never be brought back. The idea of it wasn’t bad but when you don’t drag the other team to the deep end, the idea behind it doesn’t work and it also doesn’t fit Michigan State.
What fits Michigan State and seems to be where the athletic department is headed back towards is the Spartan culture. This is displayed with the Greek pattern in Spartan Stadium and the hype video the Michigan State football tweeted.
Let’s not just stop with those things. Let’s fully embrace the Spartan lifestyle and bring back the chariot. The chariot was something Michigan State did for about 15 years and Batt even likes the idea of its return.
3. Light/drone show
While wanting to embrace the Spartan culture of old, it is also time to embrace the future which includes light shows or even drone shows. This might not be something you do every game but having a light show or drone show at half time or after the third quarter would add some modern twist to the game-day experience at Spartan Stadium. With the band and everything else that goes on in the game, this might be pretty difficult to do but it would be cool to see one of these become a part of Spartan Stadium especially because I believe fans would enjoy them.
These improvements are just a few ideas that I believe are realistic additions to Spartan Stadium. Other ideas could include a different hype video prior to the game or different places to hang out in the stadium. While we don’t know exactly what the other game-day improvements will be, we do know that Batt is investing in the game-day experience which is something fans have wanted for a very long time.
