Brady Pretzlaff, a 2024 Michigan State football signee, is ranked the No. 9 linebacker in the country, according to On3.

Signing day is fast approaching for the 2024 football recruiting class, and Michigan State football has put together a respectable class. The odds were stacked against the Spartans after everything that went down with Mel Tucker, but Jonathan Smith and his staff have done an excellent job putting the class together in such a short amount of time.

According to 247Sports, Michigan State has the No. 46 class in the country. They also have the No. 15 ranked class in the Big Ten. These rankings aren’t what we expect at MSU, but all things considered, it’s not so bad.

One freshman, in particular, really stands out in the rankings. So much so that he finished in the top 10 in the country at his position, per On3.

Brady Pretzlaff is a top-10 linebacker in the country

According to On3, Brady Pretzlaff is a four-star linebacker and the No. 9 ranked linebacker in the country. On3 is much higher on Pretzlaff than the rest of the recruiting sites as they are the only ones that have made him a four-star. Also, only one other recruiting site has Brady in their top 40 at his position as well, so maybe that means he’ll move up in their rankings soon, too.

Pretzlaff was a very late addition to the Spartans’ recruiting class. He originally committed to Minnesota before decommitting from the Gophers on Dec. 13. This decommitment came just days after he took an official visit to Michigan State. One week later, Brady made it official, committed to MSU, and signed his letter of intent.

The main reason Pretlaff chose MSU over the Gophers was to follow defensive coordinator Joe Rossi who was the coordinator at Minnesota before deciding to join Smith in East Lansing. That move made him interested in Michigan State football, and the rest is history.

I don’t expect Pretzlaff to contribute much as a freshman, especially considering the depth of MSU’s linebacker room. But I’d be shocked if he wasn’t a starter and major contributor at some point in his career.
