Michigan State Football: Fireworks display hinted at by J Batt for opener

Michigan State football opens the 2025 season against Western Michigan on Friday, and it sounds like fireworks could happen.

In the most recent podcast episode of Locked on Spartans, hosted by Matt Sheehan, he had the opportunity to talk to Michigan State AD J Batt about the upcoming season. In this episode, he had a 15-minute conversation about things like tailgating, Central Michigan, and things to expect.

In this segment and through his letter from yesterday, Batt mentioned and specifically said “look to the sky is what I’ll say” when talking about seeing and hearing new things. There was speculation about possibly fireworks, and I even wrote an article yesterday about how I would love to see fireworks come to the Michigan State football game-day experience. It seems like this is no longer speculation as without specifically saying it, Batt all but confirmed that Spartan fans will be seeing fireworks in the sky on Friday.

This was not the only thing on my list and other fans list that they would like to see that was brought up. The idea of bringing back the chariot onto the football field was also asked by Sheehan. While Batt specifically said he does not have plans for white horses on the field, he did mention that “I like things like that”. This does not mean that the chariot will ever return but if it ever did, imagine the crowds reaction to the return of a once tradition.

The last big topic about game-day experiences that was brought up was the possibility of a game in another country. While not specifically saying anything, if the opportunity is right, there seems like Batt and the administration would not hesitate to do something like that as Michigan State has done unique things in the past.
