Four-star cornerback Chris McConkle from Florida has named Michigan State football as one of his 12 finalists.
Michigan State football has had a lot of positive developments on the recruiting trail recently. With the 2024 class now complete, the staff is beginning to lay the groundwork for the 2025 class.
Jonathan Smith and his staff received some good news today with one recruit as he named MSU as one of his top schools in his recruitment.
Four-star cornerback Chris McCorkle
Chris McCorkle is a four-star cornerback from Sarasota, Fla. He is 6-foot-1 and 172 pounds and already has the athleticism needed to excel at the college football level.
And 247Sports is very high on McCorkle as a recruit. They rank him as the No. 247 player in the country and the No. 27 player at his position. He also is the No. 29 player in the state of Florida, which is very impressive considering the talent Florida always has.
As a junior, he had an excellent season on both sides of the ball. He recorded 14 tackles, nine pass breakups and four interceptions on the defensive side of the ball. He also caught eight passes for 186 yards on offense as well. I don’t know about you, but I always have a preference for guys who excel on both sides of the ball.
Recruiting competition
Also included in McCorkle’s top 12 are Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisville, Mississippi State, Central Florida, and West Virginia. You likely won’t be surprised to see who’s favored in his recruitment.
The two big Florida schools on his list, Florida and Florida State, appear to be the frontrunners in his recruitment. No predictions have been made yet, but these two schools are listed as “warm” on his recruiting profile. This feature sometimes doesn’t mean much, but I think it’s likely pretty accurate. These two schools are his two most recent visits. He visited Florida on Jan. 13 and Florida State on Feb. 3. So the combination of him being from Florida and these two schools being his most recent visits make them the early leaders.
But don’t count out Michigan State yet. Smith has shown to be an excellent recruiter at MSU, and with so much time left recruiting this class I wouldn’t say any recruit Smith prioritizes is impossible to get.
Smith will need to get McCorkle on campus, however, if he wants a chance to win his recruitment. So that is the next step for MSU in this recruitment as well as many others the staff is targeting.
