Jonathan Smith continues to make moves in the portal and once the first domino falls, I can see Michigan State football finishing with one of the best transfer classes in the country. The first-year head coach is targeting some of the top players at every position.
Not only is he offering some elite transfers, but he’s getting them on campus.
Smith has extended over two dozen offers already and he’s not nearly done. He’s also scheduled a number of official visits, including one that just took place on Wednesday with the No. 3 cornerback in the transfer portal.
Brice Pollock, who is tied for the No. 3 cornerback in the portal along with fellow Spartan target Raion Strader, officially visited Michigan State on Wednesday which proved all the rumors true.
There was some speculation that Pollock might visit Michigan State this week, and Justin Thind of 247Sports confirmed that on Wednesday. He was reportedly in East Lansing on Wednesday.
Pollock has received a ton of interest in the transfer portal and there’s going to be a strong push from other Power Four programs to land the Mississippi State cornerback. He just wrapped up his second season with the Bulldogs and he was really solid. He finished with 48 tackles, a tackle for loss, an interception, a forced fumble, and nine pass breakups. Pollock would be a heck of an addition to the Spartans’ defensive backfield.
Michigan State is likely trying to set up a visit with Strader after offering him on Wednesday and there’s reportedly another defensive back from the SEC visiting on Thursday.
The defensive backfield improved pretty clearly this season compared to the last few under Mel Tucker and Harlon Barnett. It’s still far from the ‘No Fly Zone’ days that made Michigan State elite.
The addition of Pollock could help change that, especially after losing Jaylen Thompson and Charles Brantley.
Hopefully his visit blew him away.
