Michigan State football has released their injury report prior to their week four matchup against USC. This was a crucial report for the Spartans, as four starting lineman, alongside their WR1 and HB1, had all left the Youngstown State game with injury. Additionally, the Spartans were missing rotational lineman Ashton Lepo in week three.
Who’s Out?
The release of the injury report did bring one surprise, with redshirt freshman Brady Pretzlaff being listed as out. Pretzlaff exited the contest in the second half with an apparent upper body injury. During the week, nothing was mentioned of his status, but evidently the injury will hold him out for at least one contest.
Alante Brown was also listed as out after a pre-game injury before the game against the Penguins. Brown was listed as a honorary game captain, but had a lower body injury prevent him from partaking in the fesitivities such as the coin toss, alongside the game. Jonathan Smith announced his injury was a long-term one, but he was not mentioned as out for the year.
Luka Vincic was the third and final addition to the injury report, and his injury is the most severe. A lower body injury saw the lineman get carted off at halftime during the week three game. Jonathan Smith said he was not optimistic about the lineman. That was confirmed prior to the game, as an MSU spokesperson confirmed he was out for the season.
Vincic joins sophomore defensive backs Caleb Gash and Andrew Brinson IV as players out for the season.
Tarik Ahmetbasic, Kaden Schickel, and Jalen Satchell all remain out for this contest as well.
Additionally, senior DB Dontavius Nash and freshman RB Jace Clarizio were players that did not travel with the team.
Who’s in?
In good news for the Spartans, junior offensive lineman Ashton Lepo returned to the Spartans for Saturday’s game. He missed the previous contest with an undisclosed injury.
Additionally, Makhi Frazier, the Spartans leading rusher, was not on the injury report. Frazier left the YSU game in the final quarter with a lower body injury.
Joining Frazier as players to dress on Saturday was Nick Marsh. Marsh did not play in the second half of the Youngstown State game, also with a lower body injury.
With the Spartans as severe (19.5 points as of 10 p.m. local time) underdogs, they will need all hands on deck.
