Michigan State football has lost one of its fan-favorite players to the transfer portal as Darius Snow entered on Monday.
Earlier on Monday morning, it was reported that Michigan State football linebacker Darius Snow has entered the portal as a grad transfer. During his time in East Lansing, Snow logged 98 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, an interception, and three pass breakups.
Snow was recruited by former head coach Mark Dantonio as a four-star safety before he made the switch to linebacker under Mel Tucker. He is from Frisco, Texas, but has family ties to the university. His uncle, Percy Snow, was a two-time All-American linebacker and one of the greatest players in Michigan State football history. And his dad was a star on the basketball team before heading to the NBA.
Snow suffered a brutal, season-ending knee injury during the 2022 season opener against Western Michigan which took over a year to return from. Many would say he wasn’t never quite the same which has limited his playing time during the 2023 season.
His injury was a huge blow for the team last year as one could argue he was 1A or 1B most important defensive player for the team alongside safety Xavier Henderson. As a former safety, Snow was easily the Spartans’ best pass-defending linebacker which became painfully obvious as the 2022 season wore on. Snow and Henderson being hurt at the same time was part of the reason MSU’s secondary was historically bad in 2022. There was a stark difference when Henderson returned.
I’m going to miss Snow’s love for the university and graphic design skills most of all. As a graphic design major, you could always rely on Snow to drop the heat on all the socials. I think he even did some work for the team (someone can fact-check me on that).
As a grad transfer, I hope Snow finds a good home with plenty of playing time for his final year of college eligibility. In the words of the infamous @DailyMSU, ‘Good luck to him!’
