During the early signing period in December, Michigan State football was able to get 18 players to sign their National Letters of Intent. That 2026 class ranked 44th in the nation, with four four-stars, and 14 three-star recruits.

Collin Campbell heads the group of 18, ranked No. 195 in the nation, No. 19 at his position, and No. 2 in his home state of Arizona. Right behind Campbell is Detroit Catholic Central verbal commit Samson Gash. He’s the highest unsigned commit in MSU’s class, and with a nearing announcement date of early February, is a crucial focus to Pat Fitzgerald.

When former Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith was fired, Gash and Campbell both remained unsigned when the early signing period rolled around. Campbell signed within the month, and Gash stayed unsigned to “weigh his options”.

After taking visits to multiple other schools, Gash was in East Lansing this weekend, Jan. 30, for the Michigan-Michigan State basketball game for the second weekend of junior day for Michigan State football.  Gash is with his younger brother Gideon Gash, who also plays at Catholic Central and also has an offer from MSU.

Corey Robinson of 247Sports recently appeared on The Drive With Jack Ebling, and spoke about Samson Gash’s recruitment. Robinson said he believes that Michigan State currently has the edge going into the visit. Robinson also stated that, “If I were handicapped and had to make a decision, I would say that Gash would end up at MSU.”

Considering the Spartans brought in two wide receivers in the transfer portal, Fredrick Moore of Michigan and KK Smith of Notre Dame, the green and white could be a bit short at the receiver position come summer camp.

If Gash were to commit to Michigan State football, Gash would bring an extreme amount of speed and athleticism to the receiver room, something that the Spartans could use.
