Michigan State football offered star North Texas wide receiver transfer Ja’Mori Maclin on Thursday. This is a big-time offer.
On Thursday afternoon, North Texas wide receiver transfer Ja’Mori Maclin announced that he had received an offer from Michigan State football.
Coming out of high school, Maclin was a three-star prospect with only a handful of Power Five offers. He committed and began his playing career at the University of Missouri in 2020. After not receiving much playing time, he entered the transfer portal in 2022. He chose North Texas.
This past season, Maclin put up eye-popping numbers. He totaled 57 receptions for 1,004 yards, while hauling in 11 touchdowns. This included four games where Maclin went over 100 yards, and by no coincidence, the Mean Green went 3-1 in those games. After wrapping up a 5-7 season with North Texas, Maclin announced he would once again be entering the transfer portal on Wednesday afternoon.
Freshly retained wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins, made sure to offer Maclin quickly. He has already racked up numerous Power Five offers, including Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Penn State.
Adding Maclin to the wide receiver room would be huge for the Spartans. Michigan State has had a plethora of great receivers the past few years with the likes of Jalen Nailor, Jayden Reed, and Keon Coleman. Not to mention, there have already been three wideouts from the 2023 roster announcing their intentions to enter the transfer portal. Christian Fitzpatrick, Jaron Glover, and Tyrell Henry, have already posted their portal announcements as of Thursday afternoon. By losing those three the Spartans lose 708 yards of production, which should not go unnoticed.
New head coach Jonathan Smith could make a big splash if he and Hawkins could reel in Maclin. He would almost certainly become the first pass-catching option in the new offense, whoever the quarterback winds up being.
