Michigan State football has extended an offer to top-50 offensive tackle Kodi Greene. The trenches are a priority.
Recruiting the 2025 class is the main focus for all college football programs right now. However, that isn’t stopping Michigan State football from already laying the groundwork for the class of 2026.
Jonathan Smith and his staff just offered a huge prospect in the 2026 class in offensive tackle Kodi Greene.
Meet four-star offensive tackle Kodi Greene
Kodi Greene is a four-star offensive tackle from Sammamish, Wash., and 247Sports ranks him as the No. 1 player in the state. They also have him as the No. 47 player overall in his class and the No. 9 offensive tackle. When I say this is a massive offer, it’s pretty easy to tell why based on his ranking. But his size confirms this as well.
Kodi is 6-foot-6 and 260 pounds as a current high school sophomore. Now I know most offensive tackles are this big, but to already have this size as a sophomore is not very common.
As you would guess, Greene already has a lot of offers from major college football programs. Most of his offers are from West Coast teams including Washington, Oregon, Stanford, and Arizona State. He also has a few other offers from big schools including Texas A&M and Michigan.
It’s only a matter of time until even more offers start piling up for Kodi. Being in the class of 2026, his recruitment won’t be over for almost two more years. So for Michigan State to get in on him this early will hopefully pay off in the long run.
Importance of recruiting this position
Do I even need to say how important the offensive tackle position is in football? I would even argue it’s the most important. Sure you could say quarterback is the most important position, but what’s a quarterback without a good offensive line? Not a very good quarterback. And blocking and protecting your quarterback all starts with your offensive tackles. That’s why this position is one of the highest paid in the NFL.
So this is the perfect offer for Michigan State to make this early in the 2026 cycle. Strengthening the offensive line, where MSU has struggled in recent years, has to be priority No. 1. Winning a recruitment like this is one big step to do just that. There’s no saying where we stand in this recruitment, but you can’t win it unless you offer them, and offering this early could pay dividends in the future.
