Michigan State football is hosting another crop of recruits this coming weekend. Could the Spartans be on commit watch?
Michigan State football has a big recruiting weekend coming up. Feb. 3 is the first Junior Day being held by Jonathan Smith since taking over as head coach in East Lansing. Many talented recruits are already planning on coming and I imagine many more are yet to announce they are visiting as well. However, one talented 2024 recruit is visiting Michigan State this weekend. Could we be on commit watch?
Meet three-star wide receiver Jaylan Brown
Jaylan Brown is a three-star wide receiver from Nacogdoches, Texas. Ge is 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, showing he already has the height needed to excel at the college level. The recruiting rankings don’t have him ranked very high, currently as the No. 107 wide receiver in the country. But when it comes to wide receiver recruits, I tend to not focus on their ranking. Wide receiver coach Courtney Hawkins has proven himself time and time again at being able to find elite receivers and develop them. So this is one position we shouldn’t worry about recruiting rankings too much.
Getting a visit is great, but why does that mean MSU could be on commit watch? One crystal ball prediction is out there already on 247Sports for Brown to commit to Michigan State. And it is from none other than Steve Wiltfong who is one of the lead national recruiting analysts for 247Sports, and he gets pretty much every recruiting prediction correct. Not many people are more “in the know” than him.
Now nothing has come out about Brown wanting to commit any time soon. But the fact that he’s taking a visit a couple of weeks before signing day seems significant to me. Also, Wiltfong’s crystal ball prediction stands out as well because why else would a national recruiting analyst put in a pick?
If Brown chooses to commit, I don’t think it would be this weekend. It likely would be in the coming week after he has returned home. Our MSU 247Sports insiders would likely put their own predictions in as well. So if you see more predictions being made for Brown, that likely is your sign that good news is on the way.
