According to Justin Thind of 247Sports, all Michigan State football players plan to opt in to the EA Sports College Football 25 video game.
I’m sure most of you have heard about the new college football video game that is coming out this summer. EA Sports will release a new college football video game for the first time in a decade, and it will include Michigan State football and reportedly all 85 scholarship players.
This is the first edition of the game since name, image and likeness (NIL) took over college athletics. That means players finally have a chance to earn some NIL money off this game.
EA Sports announced Thursday that players who opt in will receive $600 and a free copy of the game for allowing EA Sports to use their name and likeness in the game.
Will Michigan State’s players participate?
According to Justin Thind with 247Sports, all 85 Michigan State scholarship players will opt in and be in the game. Players can opt out and be excluded from this if they choose, but it sounds like each MSU player is choosing to be included.
Now I don’t think this will give MSU an advantage over other team’s in recruiting. I imagine almost every player in the country will want to take part in this. Even if this wasn’t a paid opportunity, I don’t see why most athletes wouldn’t want to be in a video game, that sounds like a cool opportunity.
But this is great opportunity for the Michigan State players. If they do opt in, they’ll get to see themselves in what will likely become one of the most popular video games of all time. They also will get $600 and a free copy of the game as well. Now that doesn’t sound like a bad deal to me.
This is awesome for Michigan State fans, too, because they can play with the Spartans actual roster. If players opt out, I believe a generic, made-up player will be put in their place. This would take a little of the fun away. So thankfully it sounds like MSU fans will get to play with the entire team.
The countdown is on as the game will go live later this summer. I can’t wait to start my virtual Michigan State football dynasty, something I’m sure a lot of you will do as well.
