Michigan State football recruiting target cancels visit to East Lansing

A top Michigan State football recruiting target canceled his visit to East Lansing that was coming up in November.

When Tyren Wortham decommitted from Michigan State football back in October, multiple receivers in the class of 2026 were brought up as replacements. Of the names mentioned on message boards, and social media alike, one was a consistent feature in the minds of MSU fans.

Meet Tayshon Bardo, a former Wisconsin commit, who visited the Spartans over the summer twice, and had visited the Spartans again, during the Michigan game on Oct. 25. Bardo then announced on Twitter, via his own profile, that a future visit scheduled for Nov. 15 would not take place, and it seems now that the Spartans are out on Bardo’s recruitment as a whole.

The 6-foot-0, 185-pound receiver had originally planned to visit the Spartans on Nov. 15 for the Penn State game. With Wortham’s previous decommitment, Bardo’s visit was essentially a highly-important one for the Spartans, who were trying to lock up his services as soon as possible.

Currently the Spartans 2026 class consists of two receiver commits. That number could still fall as current commit and Detroit Catholic Central student Samson Gash has reportedly set up a visit to Alabama. If the Spartans lose Gash to the Crimson Tide and Wortham in the span of a month, that will signify a true rift in the program.

Losing Bardo’s visit is a setback for Michigan State’s recruiting momentum. Official visits serve as crucial opportunities for coaching staffs to make their pitch directly to prospects. For Bardo, it would have been his first in-person chance to reconnect with MSU’s staff since re-opening his recruitment.

Bardo, one of the highest uncommitted receiver prospects left in the 26′ recruiting cycle, has drawn key interest from other Big Ten schools. The Spartans appear to be out on his commitment, and are looking now to regroup as a program and move forward in the cycle.
