On Saturday, Michigan State football went and placed their official injury report in to the Big Ten before their matchup against the UCLA Bruins. The Spartans returned home for the first time in nearly a month, and hosted the Bruins for their Homecoming matchup.
Who is in, who is out for the Spartans leading into Saturday’s contest?
Players OUT for Michigan State football
EDGE Anelu Lafaele
Lafaele was seen in crutches and a boot post-game, and later posted on his Instagram a photo of himself in the hospital. The redshirt freshman had proven himself one of the better EDGE options, with two sacks and seven tackles in sparing action through the first five games. An MSU spokesperson later downgraded the injury to a season-ending.
WR/Kick Returner Alante Brown
Brown remains out after a pre-game injury took him out of action before the Youngstown State game.
LT Stanton Ramil
Ramil was pulled nine snaps into the USC game, and did not return. He was announced as out for the month, and remains out today. The Spartans are hoping for better tackle play than last week.
K Tarik Ahmetbasic
Ahmetbasic has yet to suit up this season for Michigan State football. His injury has been called a leg injury, but it was not disclosed the timetable.
LS Kaden Schickel
Schickel remains out as he recovers from an ACL tear suffered against Michigan nearly a full year ago. There has not been a timetable for his recovery.
S Nikai Martinez
Martinez is out for the fourth time in six games. He suffered a friendly fire hit with Quindarius Dunnigan against USC, and did not return. Martinez was listed as a gametime decision, but evidently, he was not good to go against the Bruins.
DB Ade Willie
The starting nickel for the first four games of the season was out against Nebraska, and was called a gametime decision by the staff. The game time decision was a “no,” and he will not play.
LB Marcellius Pulliam
Pulliam showed promise when the Spartans were down two linebackers against the Trojans, but suffered an injury at some point and has not seen the field since. There is no clarity on his injury or severity, but he was listed as out today.
DB NiJhay Burt
Burt has been a special teams contributer, and also played a handful of snaps at corner in some early season matchups. His injury was undisclosed
TE Brennan Parachek
Parachek is on the injury report for the second time this season. He previously missed the week one contest against Western Michigan.
TE Jayden Savoury
Savoury is also out today, joining Parachek. The freshman has one catch for 16 yards this season, and played four snaps last week against the Cornhuskers. He was also a core special teamer.
DE Jalen Thompson
The big surprise of the injury report, MSU’s starting strong defensive end is out today. That leaves room for a player such as Kekai Burnett to step up, alongside Quindarius Dunnigan. Thompson is coming off his best outing of the season, with two tackles for loss, including a sack, against Nebraska. He went down injured late in the contest.
Season Ending Injuries
- DB Andrew Brinson IV
- DB Caleb Gash
- LB Brady Pretzlaff
- OL Luka Vincic
These four have all been announced as out since before the USC game, but those tuning in for the first time in a few weeks, these Spartans will not be suiting up today.
Who’s in for Michigan State football?
No one is back from the injury report last week.
Who’s been back for Michigan State football?
DT Jalen Satchell
Satchell was cleared for the first time of the season against Nebraska, and came off the bench to play a handful of snaps.
Despite the Spartans facing these injuries, there is no excuses for the Spartans to execute. They are 7.5-point favorites for a reason. They have to execute.
