Michigan State football landed three-star wide receiver Jaylan Brown on Sunday. He’s a rising star in the 2024 class.
Almost every player in the 2024 recruiting class has committed to a program by now, with most also signing their letters of intent. That, however, hasn’t stopped Michigan State football and Jonathan Smith from earning yet another commitment in the 2024 recruiting class.
Meet three-star wide receiver Jaylan Brown
Jaylan Brown is the latest recruit to officially commit to Michigan State. He is a three-star wide receiver from Nacogdoches, Texas. Brown is 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, showing he already has the height needed to excel at the college level.
The recruiting rankings don’t have him ranked very high, currently as the No. 107 wide receiver in the country. But when it comes to wide receiver recruits, I tend to not focus on their ranking. Wide receiver coach Courtney Hawkins has proven himself time and time again at being able to find elite receivers and develop them. So this is one position we shouldn’t worry about recruiting rankings too much.
Brown was in East Lansing this weekend on an official visit that began on Friday. I previously wrote about how MSU could be on commit watch with Brown, but I did not expect it to come this soon.
2024 class update
As I mentioned, the 2024 recruiting class is all but wrapped up across the country. The Spartans class currently sits at No. 45 in the country and No. 14 in the Big Ten. This doesn’t capture the transfers that Smith and his staff have brought in this offseason.
When combining the 2024 class with the Spartans’ transfer class, MSU has the No. 38 class in the country and No. 11 in the conference.
I know this isn’t where we want to be, but it’s still pretty solid all things considered. Jonathan Smith was hired late in this recruiting cycle, so that made it tough to put together an elite class. Mel Tucker also did MSU no favors with everything that transpired there. So all in all, this is a really good first class for Smith at MSU, and I imagine it will only go up from here with future classes.
This could very well be the last commit in the 2024 class for Michigan State. The staff now will turn their attention to the 2025 class, and I can’t wait to see who they’re able to get to commit to MSU next.
