Michigan State athlete have to be thrilled about new NIL opportunities, including a new campaign coming next month.
Name, image and likeness (NIL) is one of the hottest topics in college athletics right now. You see many programs out there who seem to be hitting on all cylinders regarding NIL deals for their athletes, while other schools seem to be falling way behind. I’ve always imagined Michigan State being somewhere in the middle. Michigan State’s NIL packages seem good enough to compete but they definitely aren’t the best in the country.
However, the gap between MSU and the top NIL schools in the country will be closing next month as a new campaign is coming soon.
Spartan Nation NIL campaign
On Jan. 19, a new NIL campaign called Spartan Nation NIL was announced all over social media. At the time, the only information revealed came from their one social media post. It read “A New Way to Support Spartan Athletics in the Name, Image, and Likeness Space.”
At the time there was no date for when this campaign would begin, however that all changed on Thursday. From the post shared above, the Spartan Nation NIL campaign will go live on March 18. No new information has been included about what the campaign will be, but I think I have a good guess.
Many programs throughout the country give fans direct access to donate to NIL funds, but that is something MSU has fallen behind on. However, I think this campaign could change that. I think this because of the first post from Spartan Nation NIL, when they said “new way to support.” That to me implies fans having the ability to help out.
Spartan athletes share their excitement
Another reason to get excited about this campaign is because of the positive feedback from current Michigan State athletes online. Many football players have already responded to Thursday’s post proclaiming their excitement, including Darius Snow, Jaylen Thompson, Ken Talley, and Cole Dellinger.
I don’t know about you, but seeing their excitement just makes me ever more excited.
I imagine more details will come soon as the March 18 release date approaches. At the end of the day, I just hope this makes MSU even more competitive with NIL compared to the rest of the country. Knowing how large and enthusiastic the Michigan State alumni and fanbase are, if this is an opportunity for fans to get involved I think it will be a very successful campaign.
