It finally happened.

After a long wait and a full-court press this past weekend, Michigan State and Pat Fitzgerald have secured the commitment of four-star wide receiver Samson Gash.

For everyone who has lived under a rock, Gash is a Detroit Catholic Central senior who committed to the Spartans last summer. In early December, MSU signed 18 recruits to its 2026 recruiting class but Gash was the only one to hold off on signing after Jonathan Smith was fired.

Taking visits to Alabama and Penn State, receiving offers from other schools such as Wisconsin and West Virginia, all to “test the waters”. Fitzgerald and the Spartans pulled off the much-needed commitment, and secured the state-record holder in the 100-meter dash in Michigan.

Gash joins his older brother, Caleb Gash, who was injured early in the season and did not make a comeback. The Spartans have also offered Samson’s younger brother, Gideon Gash, who is a four-star cornerback according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Samson joins a receiving room that is looking to break out in 2026. Chrishon McCray is back with some help from the transfer portal. Notre Dame’s KK Smith and Michigan’s Fredrick Moore transferred into East Lansing and are both competing for a starting spot in offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan’s offense.

Redshirt freshman Braylon Collier and Charles Taplin are also in place to receive snaps, and with Gash entering the system, the receiving room is looking more and more potent every day.

Gash could be a Nick Marsh-type of player: Speedy and athletic, while breaking out as a eye-popping freshman early in his career. Sophomore quarterback Alessio Milivojevic will have multiple targets to look at this season, and Gash could emerge as a favorite with that blazing speed on his.

In the 2026 class, Gash joins three-star Zachary Washington out wide, who also possesses an impressive speed, with a 4.37 40-yard dash. In comparison, Gash runs a 4.38 40-yard dash.

In 2025, speed was an issue at wideout. It’s clear that wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins and the staff have made it a priority to bring some much-needed speed into East Lansing for 2026.
