There’s some serious beef reaching its boiling point between Draymond Green and the father of former teammate Jordan Poole.
Draymond Green has been in the headlines for the wrong reasons quite a bit over the past year, starting with the punch heard ’round the NBA when he knocked Jordan Poole out in preseason practice.
That punch was dubbed the “beginning of the end” for the Warriors by a lot of NBA fans and team chemistry was definitely affected. Usually you can’t come back from something like that, but Draymond won his teammates’ trust back, including Poole’s.
Golden State ended up losing in the Western Conference Semifinals to the Lakers. Maybe it was the end.
Even more interesting was the fact that Draymond became a free agent, taking advantage of his player option. Would that mean that the ‘Big 3’ in Golden State was officially broken up? Not exactly. He signed a deal and took a pay cut with the Warriors to return and essentially guarantee that he stayed with the organization for the rest of his career.
Shortly after, Poole was traded to the wasteland that is the Washington Wizards.
That sparked a lot of rumors about Draymond not wanting to play with Poole ever since last summer’s incident. He went on Patrick Beverly’s podcast on Wednesday to talk about how he doesn’t just punch anyone for no reason.
“You usually ain’t just triggered by something that fast to that degree,” Draymond said. “We know stuff that you don’t say amongst men. We know things that you have to stand on. As I’ve admitted before, I was wrong how I handled it.”
Draymond insinuated that there was a build-up to the Poole incident and Jordan’s father, Anthony, took exception to that. He took to Twitter to call it “BS” and say that Draymond’s a “soft a*s b*tch.”
Obviously Draymond had to respond.
In the podcast Draymond went on to say that he wishes Poole well on his journey and he’s a really talented player who is going to be really good. He said that he can “grow at his pace” not next to three Hall of Fame players now. It seemed like he wasn’t trying to throw shade, just clearing the air on what may have led to the punch. Draymond said that there are no hard feelings.
But Poole took to Twitter to take a shot at Draymond, saying “find you a hobby.”
This feels like the beef that will never be settled even if Draymond thinks there are no hard feelings. Poole’s dad did not help the optics.
