The Green Bay Packers made a great pick with Jayden Reed at No. 50 overall. The former Spartan is already projected to start.
Jayden Reed is going to have to issue a quick apology to the state of Wisconsin for what he did to the Badgers in 2022 before he can take the field for the Packers.
All Reed did was rip out Wisconsin’s heart in East Lansing with a patented “give me that” catch in the end zone in overtime to win the game. Wisconsin fans hated him then, but they love him now as he was the Packers’ No. 50 overall selection. He’s the first Michigan State player to be selected in the second round since Devin Thomas 15 years ago.
Every Spartan fan loved this pick because his 2022 season wasn’t indicative of what type of player he truly was and if he had more consistent quarterback play and was fully healthy, he may have gone even higher. However, great Reese’s Senior Bowl and NFL Combine showings boosted his stock.
Reed went from “maybe around rounds four or five” to a firm second-round selection.
This means that Green Bay is expecting him to produce right away. And they’ll need that.
According to the depth chart projection on ESPN, the Packers’ starting receivers for the 2022 season will be Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and — that’s right — Jayden Reed.
You just love to see it.
Green Bay may have lost Aaron Rodgers this offseason, but the offense is young and could be electric if Watson and Doubs build off solid 2022 seasons and Aaron Jones continues to be a star at running back. Also, if Jordan Love can live up to his lofty draft stock from three years ago, the Packers should surprise some people.
Now he has a new weapon in Reed to go along with Doubs, Watson, and Jones.
I’m not sure I expected Reed to start as a rookie, but it’s looking like that may be the case in Green Bay.
