Charles Lester III just visited Michigan State football on Wednesday and decided to stay overnight and cancel his Georgia visit.
On Wednesday, elite five-star cornerback Charles Lester III made a surprise visit to Michigan State football that threw all of Spartan Nation into a frenzy. All eyes have been on recruiting this offseason and any news, no matter how major or insignificant, has been making major waves. This news was no exception.
This upcoming weekend, Lester was scheduled to make an official visit to Georgia. This morning, however, the program-altering defensive back tweeted that he would be cancelling that visit due to personal issues.
Now it’s tough to speculate why the visit was cancelled and we don’t want to make any assumptions given those personal issues could include anything. The most interesting part is the timing. After spending the day in East Lansing, could it be possible that Lester cancelled his official visit to Georgia to stay at Michigan State longer?
Michigan State is primed to have nine major recruiting targets on campus this weekend and this is expected to be the busiest official visit weekend of the year. Other targets such as five-star defensive lineman David Stone and four-star receiver Nick Marsh headline the visitor list and it is rumored there are to be a few undisclosed visitors.
Lester hails from Venice, Fla., where he was friends with current Michigan State starting cornerback Charles Brantley. On top of that, Michigan State receiver Jaron Glover is former teammates with Lester and appears to still have strong ties. Both Brantley and Glover have been seen around campus with the high-profile recruit, and it is clear they are hoping to push Lester to commit to the Spartans.
With all that being said, there are a number of possibilities for why Lester cancelled his official visit to Georgia. Is there something going on at home (“personal issues”)? Did MSU make that big of an impact on him this week? Does he simply want to spend more time with old friends? No one can be certain and only time will tell.
I’m excited to see where this recruitment goes in the next couple of weeks.
