Former Michigan State football safety Jaden Mangham threw some shade at his former Spartan teammates recently.
Michigan State football fans still have some sour opinions on a handful of former players who opted to leave the program for “greener pastures” but no one quite riled the fanbase up as much as Jaden Mangham.
The former Michigan State safety decided to transfer to Michigan this past spring despite saying he was locked in and being projected as a starting defensive back for the Spartans. This rubbed a lot of Spartans the wrong way.
While players have played this off as not a huge deal because the NIL era is weird and it can force a lot of players’ hands in the transfer portal, you know they took it personal behind the scenes. And after hearing Mangham talk recently to Sam Webb on Behind the Uniform, the bulletin-board material is just piling up.
Although Mangham didn’t say anything totally disrespectful or out of pocket, he did state that the players he’s been around at Michigan work a little harder than his former teammates — and he didn’t even have to bring up the Spartans.
Webb asked him how his time at Michigan has gone thus far and he took the slight shot at his former teammates and program.
“Coming in, I could tell it was different,” Mangham said. “Doing things, lifts, workouts, just running, seeing how people carry themselves, seeing how people prepare – seeing that it was different. There were some guys (at Michigan State) who did do a little bit of that. But it’s just so much more here.”
It’s not surprising to hear Mangham talk up his new school but hearing him knock his previous program’s work ethic by saying “there were some” guys who worked hard but it’s “so much more” at Michigan has to ignite a fire in the Spartans.
Anyone else excited to see Mangham line up against his former Michigan State football teammates this fall?
