Mel Tucker preparing to sue Michigan State for wrongful termination

Now-former Michigan State football coach Mel Tucker is reportedly preparing to file a wrongful termination lawsuit.

Right when we thought the Mel Tucker saga was over, more news hits social media.

On Thursday evening, Pete Thamel reported that Tucker’s lawyers are preparing to file a wrongful termination lawsuit against Michigan State after he was fired on Wednesday by Alan Haller.

This report doesn’t come as a huge surprise because, well, this is the only option he has left after being fired. He has been saying all along that he doesn’t believe that what he did was grounds for termination. Tucker and his lawyers have already been setting this up for a wrongful termination lawsuit by providing timelines for everything he’s been accused of and stating that his relationship with Brenda Tracy was mutual.

It’s tough to get a real read on the situation given everything that’s transpired, but I can’t see this going very far in Tucker’s favor.

Actually, I would be shocked if this even went to court. I could see a settlement between the two sides and everyone agreeing to move on, but the news on Wednesday of Tracy saying that she believed the person who leaked her name was on the board of trustees could muck things up.

Tucker had no other option than to file this lawsuit, especially since he doesn’t believe what he did was wrong.

I’m going to reserve my opinion on this whole situation because I just think it’s become such a mess. This should have never happened in the first place. The university has been given another black eye because of a poor decision by a person in power.

Moving forward, I hope he learns from his mistakes and I hope Michigan State hires the right replacement.

But it feels like this process is far from over.
