Star Colorado State receiver Justus Ross-Simmons has been in contact with Michigan State football since hitting the portal.
Filling team needs through the transfer portal? Jonathan Smith is all over that one. The new Michigan State football coach has been active in the portal, landing some projected starters ahead of the 2024 season.
With a need at receiver, especially after losing a Purdue transfer this offseason, Smith has his eye on the portal.
On Wednesday, word got out that he had reached out to Colorado State star Justus Ross-Simmons who is coming off a big season with the Rams and just hit the transfer portal.
After a breakout sophomore season, Ross-Simmons decided to enter the transfer portal. He caught 45 passes for 724 yards and three touchdowns as a sophomore and was solid with 424 yards and three scores on 26 catches as a freshman. Wherever he goes, he’ll have an immediate impact.
Ross-Simmons put up these impressive numbers at Colorado State in an offense that ranked 56th nationally from the Mountain West. Imagine what he could do with a quarterback like Aidan Chiles throwing him the ball in an offense led by Jonathan Smith and Co.
Not only has he put up impressive numbers, but he has the size that any receiving corps could use. He stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 205 pounds. He would fit in nicely next to Montorie Foster Jr., Antonio Gates, Alante Brown, Jaron Glover, and Nick Marsh.
With the receiving corps losing some key players over the past couple of years like Jayden Reed, Keon Coleman, Germie Bernard, and Tre Mosley, it’s safe to say that a guy like Ross-Simmons would be a welcomed sight. Courtney Hawkins could use more pieces and this is a guy who could come in right away and compete for a starting job.
Washington, USC, Liberty, Cincinnati, and South Carolina seems like the competition so I like the Spartans’ chances.
